Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
